Welcome: The Make Life Richer Seven!

“Women's sport is currently less popular than men’s. There are millions of reasons why that's about to change. We are seven of them”

We are delighted today to welcome Jodie Taylor, Rachel Corsie, Tammy Beaumont, Danni Wyatt, Carla Humphrey and Sandy McIver to the Gym+Coffee community. Titans in their fields, these women represent their countries and clubs at the highest levels in Cricket and Football and we are over the moon to have them join us as athlete ambassadors and part of our Make Life Richer Collective.

The seven women joining our Make Life Richer crew today have different stories, different backgrounds, different lives. What they have in common is the pride they have felt walking on to a pitch, and the joy they have felt sharing the highs and lows of professional sport with teammates.

They have in common some of the battles they have fought; through matches in the sweltering heat and training sessions in the freezing rain, through physical exhaustion and mental doubt. They have in common the bravery that has taken them through intense debuts and pressure cooker matches, the astonishing work ethic that has taken them to the very top of their sport,

Over 90% of girls who play a team sport credit it with having a positive impact on their self-esteem. Yet by age 14, girls quit sport at twice the rate boys do, due to underfunding, social stigma and lack of access.

Our founding mission at Gym+Coffee is to make life richer. We’re making high quality athleisure and building a community that empowers people to socialise around exercise; to make life richer with the joys of movement, of community, of exploration. Nothing embodies this vision more than team sports, the ultimate blend of self-exploration and exhilarating camaraderie.

We know that the world doesn’t give us all equal opportunity to explore the ways that we can make our lives richer. Over 90% of girls who play a team sport credit it with having a positive impact on their self-esteem. Yet by age 14, girls quit sport at twice the rate boys do, due to underfunding, social stigma and lack of access.

What our 7 new ambassadors also have in common is the inner power that has kept them standing proud against every doubtful glance and petty prejudice that has come their way. For nervous young girls (or boys) wondering if sport is something that’s open to people like them, each one of these women is a beacon that shines the word YES. With every step they’ve taken on to a field, every fist they’ve cast to the sky in triumph, every head they’ve had to hold high in defeat, they have made the world just a little bit easier, a little bit more welcoming for everyone who has been held back or cast out.

They would be the first to tell you that they’ve never done it alone. From the families who’ve made sacrifices to support them at every turn, to the teammates who make every day and every game into something special, these women enjoy careers and lives that are powered by community. And that will be true of those who follow them too.

The quiet late night glance that says “I believe in you”. The roars of support from the most passionate fans. The supportive arms around shoulders. The collective fits of laughter from a joke no one else gets. It is communities that are going to create those millions of reasons why women’s sport will be on a permanent rise.

Today, our community celebrates seven reasons.

We could not be prouder to be welcoming Carla, Danni, Sophia, Jodie, Rachel, Sandy, and Tammy to the Make Life Richer collective
